Police Public Relations Representative Selection Committee
City of Phoenix Personnel Department
Dear Police Public Relations Representative Selection Committee:
With the enclosed resume, I would like to formally express my interest in the Police Public Relations Representative position currently open. My achievements, education, military, and work experience make me an excellent candidate.
Business Administration/Business Management education and hands-on experience in public relations: Earning my Bachelor of Business Administration/Business Management (University of Phoenix), my education included several courses in public relations, such as Public Relations, Personal Communications, and Group Communications. Each five week class, regardless of subject, required at least one individual presentation and one group presentation. These presentations provided me an opportunity to hone my communications skills and gain confidence speaking on numerous subjects in front of others. While serving with the Arizona Army National Guard, I assisted in video conferences. In charge of setting up telecommunications and video production equipment, I was imperative in the smooth operation of these conferences often involving high-ranking officials at numerous military instillations. Prior to my military experience, my position at Bull HN included training customers on proper procedures and presentation transcription, often to CD-Rom, enabling the company to continuously utilize each session. Exemplary as a public speaker, I have officiated over many training classes, often giving impromptu instructions when necessary, and have a strong understanding of the importance of demeanor, respect, and pose necessary to represent a company or public service agency, such as the City of Phoenix Police Department.
Excellent technical
skills and ability to learn new systems quickly: During my work as a Police Communications
Operator: Radio/9-1-1, I excelled in multi-tasking, often using over five
computer systems at one time. Due to the
constant evolution of public safety related equipment, I am able to learn new
systems quickly while continuing to work and under deadline. This skill translates into the ability to
handle technological changes and learn unfamiliar equipment quickly while
progressing with a project. I am
proficient in PowerPoint and Excel and am currently learning photography
software.
Strong oral and written communications skills with the ability to present the Police Department within specific policy and in a positive, professional manner: One of my strongest assets is my ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. I refined my oral and written communications skills during my past six years of employment with the Phoenix Police Department. My ability to communicate with internal and external customers includes temporary policies, such as shots fired and loud music responses on busy holidays. Each year this allows me to present often unpopular policies while maintaining a professional, customer-service oriented image for the Department. Also required to work with both encrypted and unencrypted radio talk-groups, I excelled in maintaining secure communications with officers and supervisors throughout the city and in reference to numerous high-profile situations. My current classification depends on my ability to receive, evaluate, and transmit information that frequently involves emergency situations affecting human welfare and safety allowing me to demonstrate extensive communications skills and to exercise judgment under pressure.
As you can see, my experience and education make me an
excellent candidate for Police Public Relations Representative. As per the position requirements, I also am
able to physically operate a vehicle safely, possess a valid
Sincerely,
Jane Smith
